SUMMARY:AU Play: 40 Acres
DESCRIPTION:About 40 Acres\n40 ACRES A World Premiere Written by Jim Shores (Asbury Faculty Member) & Directed By Harvey Johnson \nWinner of a Calvin Institute Worship Grant and a Creo Arts grant to help launch its first production here at Asbury. \nWhen the MacIntosh family joins Cornerstone Church in their new Dallas suburb\, they discover an unexpected connection to the church’s history that challenges everyone’s understanding of faith\, community\, and what it means to truly live as Christians. \nThis thought-provoking drama follows two families—one Black\, one white—as they navigate questions of belonging\, justice\, and reconciliation within their church community. As uncomfortable truths emerge and tensions rise\, both families must examine whether their faith calls them to something deeper than Sunday morning politeness. A powerful heartfelt exploration of how authentic Christian living requires courage\, honesty\, and the willingness to act on our beliefs even when it’s difficult. \nThis production contains mature themes and frank discussions about race and faith. The play includes one scene involving a firearm.** Recommended for ages 14 and up. Running time: Approximately 2 hours including intermission \nWhile “40 Acres” contains humor and heart\, we want to make sure you are informed that this production also deals with mature content\,themes of prejudice\, and a scene of gun violence. * Recommended for ages 14 and up. * Discretion is strongly advised. Please be aware this performance includes:\nInstances of racially charged language\nStage combat and simulated blood\nA prop firearm utilized visibly on stage\nSimulated gunfire and sudden\, loud sound effects

SUMMARY:Lexington Rowing Club Paddle
DESCRIPTION:This Saturday\, Nov. 15\, **9:00** AM. Meet at the “boathouse.” That’s the OLD MILL FEEDS bldg across the train tracks from Drinklings Coffee. And also across from The Pack Training Basketball facility. 408 E. Main Street\, Wilmore. We’ll load the boat and head down to the river! \nNOTE: We should be done by about noon. Please send along your RSVP plans to our Facebook Group or 202-870-6625. Here’s a Packing List reminder: To get into the boat means stepping down the cement ramp into water. Please bring shoes or sandals you can get WET — that’ll help focus your attention on stepping in the right place on the boat versus worrying about wet socks. A Ziplock for your phone and keys isn’t a bad idea either. Same for cold drinks and a power bar. ;7 \n

SUMMARY:Shop Small Business Week
DESCRIPTION:nce again\, the Wilmore Business Association and the Community Development Board will partner with American Express to promote their annual “Shop Small Business Saturday.” While the official date is November 29\, Wilmore will be celebrating for a full week: November 29- December 6! Retail shops will be featuring holiday inventory\, sales\, gifts with purchase\, refreshments and more! Shoppers can register at participating shops for one of four $30 gift certificates to be given away at the close of the event. \nWhy shop locally? Our small businesses create jobs and pay local taxes which keeps money circulating within Wilmore\, strengthening the local economy. Unique products often made by local artisans and personalized service by the business owners return the pleasure of shopping. Other benefits are savings on travel\, gas\, and time. They sponsor local events\, support charities\, donate to silent auctions\, and more. \nLocal shops add charm and character to Wilmore. They draw locals and visitors who are weary of big box shopping and want to “drive to downtown Wilmore to see what they have.” Shop local small businesses in Wilmore!
