SUMMARY:Wilmore Solar Tour
DESCRIPTION:The 29th American Solar Energy Society National Solar Tour will be on Saturday\, October 12\, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This is a driving tour of solar installations in the City of Wilmore. Begin your tour by getting a map with addresses at 120 Combs Lane in the Stone Creek Neighborhood. Look for the blue pop-up tent in the front yard. Use your car GPS to drive to the other sites. Enjoy a fun day out and learn more about solar energy in our area. \nSolar Over Wilmore Project Update: \nOur community project to add a 40 KW Solar Array to the Dan Glass Pavilion is still in process. Thanks to all those who have sponsored a solar panel or part of one to help solarize the City of Wilmore office complex by installing eighty solar panels on the Dan Glass Pavilion located behind City Hall. So far\, we have donations and pledges of over $24\,000 toward our goal of $64\,000. As the coordinator of the project\, I am hoping that citizens who love living in our beautiful City of Wilmore will want to “give a Christmas gift” to the city by sponsoring a solar panel or part of one. Donations of $800 or more will be acknowledged on a Solar Over Wilmore Honor Roll at City Hall. \nOne more thought. Please consider donating over several months if that will be easier for you. Donate any amount each month for the remainder of 2024. You don’t have to sponsor a solar panel all at once. Lori Vahle at City Hall will keep track of your donations. Make checks payable to the “City of Wilmore.” I have a question. If anyone knows of a private foundation that you believe would support this solar project\, would you contact me? This project will save the city about $6\,000 per month in electrical costs. These savings will continue for over 30 years and be a carbon-offset for our community. Contact person is Dale Shunk at dale.shunk@gmail.com. \nMore details and a signup form can be found at The City of Wilmore website under the “Community” Tab and then “Wilmore Municipal Center” or go to this link on the City of Wilmore website\, or you can just bring a check to the front desk at City Hall. Our local project team includes Dale Shunk\, David Riel\, Amy Fitch\, Vince Luellen\, and Daniel Wier from Commonwealth Solar LLC. \nSolar is Power to The People\, Dale Shunk\, Solar Tour Coordinator

SUMMARY:Play: The Tempest
DESCRIPTION:Find an escape from the tensions of today’s world with Asbury University’s production of Shakespeare’s The Tempest\, a captivatingly refreshing theatre experience. The Asbury University Theatre Department opens this imaginative retelling of Shakespeare’s final fantastical comedy-drama November 7 at the Greathouse Theatre for two weekends of performances. \nThe Tempest is a spellbinding tale of magic\, vendettas\, young love\, family bonds\, and the power of forgiveness. Prospero\, a once-powerful wizard and noble\, is banished by his treacherous brother Antonio to live on a deserted island with his daughter Miranda. Prospero plots to take vengeance on his enemies by conjuring a ferocious storm at sea\, shipwrecking the motley crew of royals and fools. Bedlam and hilarity soon break loose as love ignites\, competing revenge schemes go awry\, and a series of mistaken identities whirl. At the climax of the chaos\, Prospero must choose between retribution or his daughter’s newfound love for the young noble Ferdinand. Each choice carries a cost. \nWritten toward the end of his career\, The Tempest is an uncommon example of Shakespeare’s moving beyond the strict confines of comedy or tragedy to invent an entirely new dramatic form. Guest Director and Visiting Theatre Professor\, Harvey Johnson\, breathes new life into the Bard’s most musical play reimagining it for a 21st-century audience. In a collaboration with set designer and Asbury University Theatre Program Director Kris Dietrich\, Johnson has created a fantastical\, other-worldly backdrop for this story. \n“Like the exiles and castaways in the story\, we want the audience to be transported\,” said Johnson. “As people enjoy the story world that Shakespeare created\, they become more open to the power of forgiveness to mend divisions in the real world.” \nThe Tempest features a talented Asbury student cast which include Bruce Deerfield playing Prospero\, Bek Askey\, as Ariel\, Kaylyn Love Wilson\, in the role of Miranda\, and Jack Johnson as Ferdinand. Austin Mays takes on the classic role of Caliban. A strong support cast of 17 play everything from shipwrecked sailors\, villainous family members\, sea nymphs\, clueless royals\, and more. \nPerformance Dates and Times/Ticket Information \nNovember 7-9: Thursday and Friday\, 7:30 p.m.; Saturday\, 2:30 matinee and 7:30 p.m.\nNovember 13-16: Wednesday\, Thursday\, and Friday\, 7:30 p.m.; Saturday\, 2:30 matinee only\nTickets are on sale now at https://our.show/autempest. Tickets are $10 for students and senior citizens\, $12 for faculty and staff\, and $15 general admission. Group rates are also available by contacting Theatre Program Director Kris Dietrich. The Greathouse Theater is housed within the Miller Center for Communication Arts and is located at 311 W Main Street\, Wilmore\, Kentucky.
