The checkered flag drops on Saturday, April 28th, for the “Jim Edd Shearer Memorial Coaster Car Derby”. This is the fourth year for the event, sponsored by the City of Wilmore and the Wilmore Community Development Board. Last year the event was renamed “The Jim Edd Shearer Memorial Coaster Car Derby” in memory of the late local businessman and sports enthusiast, who generously helped with sponsorship at the two previous events.
Registration and safety checks start at 9:30 a.m. with races taking place at 11:00 a.m. on East Main Street. Participants, ages 7 to 17, will take a thrill ride down the hill of East Main Street which will be closed to other traffic. Kids of all ages will enjoy this complicated but simple sport which is nearly 100 years old. Participants will receive a free event tee shirt and trophies will be awarded for first, second and third places. This is a free event, thanks to local sponsorships.
