The second annual Kentucky Foxfire Festival will take place at Servant Heart Farm, 9517 Harrodsburg Rd on Friday and Saturday, September 4 and 5. Bands scheduled to perform include The Moron Brothers w/Neal James, The Dean Osborne Band, Custom Made Bluegrass, 27 South, and more. Advance 2- day tickets are $10 and available from Wilmore City Hall. Gate tickets are $15. Children 12 and under are free, as is the parking. The Festival celebrates many of Kentucky’s time honored traditions: bluegrass music, antique tractors, crafts and pottery, instrument making, knife forge, free range food, taxidermy and game calls and much more. Hosts for the event are: Tim Farmer of Tim Farmer’s Country Kitchen, Neal James of “Call of the Wildman” TV show, The Moron Brothers, Dean Osborne and Servant Heart Farm.
In addition to the Kentucky Foxfire Festival, Servant Heart Farm is partnering with Asbury University’s Equine Program and the University of Kentucky’s Extension in hosting the 11th Annual U.S. Plowing Competition on September 5th. This is the first time this event has been held in Central Kentucky. There will be teams of draft horses and mules from several states competing in seven classes. Breeds that will be there include: Belgians, Shires, Suffolk Punches, Percherons and Belgian Mules.
The competition begins at 10:00AM, will continue throughout the day and is free to the public. It is being held on the grounds but outside the festival area. There will be educational booths and activities for the children. Food will be available inside the Foxfire Festival area or off-site in Wilmore. This is a great opportunity to see how plowing was done “the old-fashioned way” by some world-class teams of horses and mules. Parking is FREE.
