In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. This week is a time to honor officers who have fallen in the line of duty. Six officers from Kentucky are listed on the “roll call” for line of duty deaths in 2015.
It’s also a perfect opportunity to show our appreciation to our local law enforcement officers who serve in Wilmore, Nicholasville and Jessamine County. A few suggestions are:
• Send a card of support
• Give a friendly wave
• Share a story about a positive law enforcement experience on social media or local newspaper
• Display a blue light on porch this week – blue is symbolic of peace
•Thank them in person for helping to protect this community
Thank you for helping us honor our law enforcement officers!
