LATEST UPDATE –

A Give-Back to Wilmore Project  – January 2026 Update

Our solar project is complete!
As you can see by the pictures, our Solar Over Wilmore Project at the
Dan Glass Pavilion was completed as of Friday, December 19, 2025.
The crew of Commonwealth Solar LLC under the direction of owner, Dan
Wier, guided the men to install seventy 590-watt solar panels on the roof of
the pavilion in cold but dry weather for a total of 41.3 KW of solar energy
generation. They were also able to run all the wire into the City Hall
building and connect it to the two inverters and the electrical service panel.
Next, we await the Jessamine County Electrical Inspector to come and do
the required inspection. We will announce a Ribbon Cutting ceremony
early in 2026. We will be placing all donors’ names on recognition plaques
at the pavilion and one inside City Hall.

Thanks for your prayers and financial support in 2024 and 2025. I
believe this solar generation rooftop array will become even more valuable
to the city over the next 30 years as the price of electricity creeps upwards.
This will help not only save the city some money but will add to the
sustainability of our wonderful community.

Our grassroots project to add a 40 KW Solar Array to the Dan Glass Pavilion is off to a good start. Thanks to all those who have sponsored a solar panel or part of one to help solarize the City of Wilmore office complex by installing eighty solar panels on the Dan Glass Pavilion located behind the Wilmore Municipal Center. So far, we have donations and pledges of over $21,000 toward our goal of $64,000. Throughout the summer look for a tent with a large solar panel on display at the Farmers Market on Saturdays, parades like on July 4th and the Fall Festival in October. As the coordinator of the project, I am hoping that citizens who love living in our beautiful City of Wilmore will want to “give back” to the city by sponsoring a solar panel or part of one.

One more thought. Please consider donating overtime if that will be easier for you. Donate any amount each month for the remainder of 2025. You don’t have to sponsor a solar panel all at once. Lori Vahle at City Hall will keep track of your donations.

More details and a signup form can be found at The City of Wilmore website under the “Community” Tab and then “Wilmore Municipal Center” or go to this link on the City of Wilmore website, or you can just bring a check to the front desk at City Hall. Our local project team includes Dale Shunk, David Riel, Amy Fitch, Vince Lewellen, and Daniel Wier from Commonwealth Solar LLC.

“Solar Over Wilmore”: A way to support our local government by lowering energy costs. Our solar installer will be Dan Wier and his crew from Commonwealth Solar. They are donating their labor as a way to give back to the community. Let’s all give back a little and support this project.

Goal: Add eighty (80) solar panels to the Dan Glass Pavilion at a total cost of $64,000.  Our timeline for this project is to raise all the funds by the end of 2025 (or sooner) and install the solar panels by the end of 2025 or in the spring of 2026.

Calling all citizens of the City of Wilmore!  Let’s bring solar energy generation to City Hall and help solarize Wilmore.   Sponsor multiple solar panels, one panel or at any level and be a part of a grassroots effort to lower the cost of energy used by the city and thus keep our taxes lower and keep the facility use fees for the activities at City Hall lower, too. Sponsor a solar panel and get your name listed on the “Solar Enthusiast Honor Roll.”
